Presentations

Why share presentations?

The overall purpose of this initiative is to facilitate communication and sharing of resources within the international SCIPT community and to provide a source of education for all. The presentations enable therapists everywhere to benefit from the work and knowledge of others. They also increase awareness of the types of initiatives, special projects, research and teaching strategies occurring in different countries.

Who can upload a presentation?

Anyone who is a member of the SCIPT network can upload a presentation.

What sort of presentations are appropriate?

Presentations relating to any aspect of physiotherapy management of people with spinal cord injuries. This can include presentations used for teaching purposes, presentations used at conferences or presentations describing special initiatives. Everything related to PT care in SCI is welcome.

Will members be able to download my presentation and use it as their own?

No, members will not be able to download your presentation. They will only be able to view it.

Will members be able to embed my presentation into their blogs and website?

It is possible but not easy and members are asked not to do this. However, if a member does embed your presentation please let us know so we can take appropriate action.

Will members be able to mock up their own presentation using my presentation as a template and credit it to themselves?

You would hope not but it is possible. So either you get very protective about your presentations to avoid against this possibility and you keep all your presentations locked up on your computer only for the privileged few to see, or you take the attitude that most people will do the right thing. By sharing your knowledge and expertise you can in your own small way advance the understanding of PT and SCI, but more importantly, you can help improve the PT care of people with SCI in countries other than your own.

Will members be able to display my presentation through this website to students or colleagues?

There is no way of stopping this and possibly this outcome should be welcomed. It means your presentation is useful and being put to a good cause. If you put your name on the top of every slide it will be difficult for people to do this without at least acknowledging your work. However people who want to use your presentation/s in this way, should seek your permission first.

Do presentations need to be reviewed and approved before posting?

There is no formal quality control on the presentations posted on this website. So members need to be aware that the International Network of SCIPT does not necessarily endorse the content of presentations, nor does it hold any responsibility for its accuracy, safety, or scientific rigor.

I posted my presentation but I can't see it appearing on the website.

You will not see your presentation appear on the website for a few days. This is because everything that is posted needs to be checked by the administrators of the site to ensure nothing inappropriate is posted.

Can members post comments about presentations?

Yes, on the right hand side of each presentation there is a place to post comments. We encourage members to do this and use presentations as a stimulus for discussion. However, please try to be respectful of authors. It is not easy putting your work out for everyone to view. By all means disagree and express your opinion but try to do it in an appropriate and constructive way. If you are tempted to let loose, make sure you have posted your own presentation first so you have a sense of what it feels like to be on the receiving end of inappropriately critical feedback.

Can I remove my presentation at a later date?

Yes, you can remove your presentation at any time. You will need to contact us and we will delete it for you.

Can I upload audio to go with my powerpoint presentation?

Yes provided it is part of your flash (SWF) file.

Can I upload a video?

Not at the moment. You can however upload your video through YouTube or the alike and then place the link within a document. We need to use this convoluted process because we don't have the funds to store large files on our server.

Will members perceive this as a forum for self-promotion?

Maybe, but you can't worry. The benefits of sharing ideas and presentations outweigh the possible misinterpretation of this initiative. Members should look upon their presentations in the same way artists look upon their work. It is there for others to see. Artists don't get coy about displaying their work.

I am worried that there might be a mistake in my presentation for all to see.

Of course there will be mistakes. It would be surprising if there were not. However, no-one can criticise a mistake until they have posted their own perfect presentation.

I can't find the time to upload my presentations.

That is a shame because you would have spent a lot of time preparing your presentation. No one will get to learn about your work and ideas unless you put your work on display. Your work will help others.

My presentations don't look very polished and professional.

Do not let this stop you posting a presentation. The quality of the content is usually inversely related to its glitz. That is, content will speak for itself. It does not need lots of flashy high-tech powerpoint skills.

My presentation is similar to one already posted by someone else.

Please post your presentation regardless of how similar it is to someone else’s presentation. Most members want confirmation that what they are presenting and teaching is in line with what others are doing. They can only get this if all members are willing to show and share their presentations.

My presentations are not in english.

We welcome presentations in all languages.

Can I use my presentation to promote my business or a commercial product?

Definitely not. Any presentation that contains material of this nature or anything deemed inappropriate will be removed and the user banned from the network. If in any doubt, check first by contacting us

Who will be able to view the presentations?

Everyone coming to this site will be able to view your presentation. So please do not include anything that is not appropriate for the general public. We may in the future just restrict this section of the website to members.

Documents

Why share documents?

The overall purpose of this initiative is to facilitate communication and sharing of resources within the international SCIPT community. The documents repository enables therapists everywhere to benefit from the work and knowledge of others. It also increases awareness of clinical practices, treatment protocols and special initiatives occurring in different countries. Members can read and build on the work of others. Provided they in turn share their work through this website, all will benefit. This initiative will prevent duplication of effort saving time and resources.

Who can upload a document?

Anyone who is a member of the SCIPT network can upload a document.

What sorts of documents are appropriate?

Documents relating to any aspect of physiotherapy management of people with spinal cord injuries. This includes assessment or discharge templates, goal planning sheets, posters, policies on treatment, reviews of evidence or protocols of research or quality projects. For example perhaps you have documents outlining your hospital’s policy on wheelchair prescription, weaning from ventilators, home exercises etc. It really does not matter. If the document is used in your clinical practice then it will probably be of interest and use to others.

Will members be able to download my documents and use them?

Sure. This is the whole purpose of this initiative. We are trying to prevent everyone, everywhere from reinventing "the wheel". This is a waste of time and money. If someone can take the best of everyone’s and come up with something even better, then provided they in turn share it through this network, we will all benefit. More importantly, our patients will benefit.

My organisation will not allow me to post our forms, documents or policies?

If you work for a private organisation then perhaps your organisations' livelihood relies on having an edge over your competitors. In this case, they may not want you to share. Although it is hard to understand why sharing with someone on the other side of the world is in anyway going to compromise your organisations' commercial edge, some organisations are very protective of anything they generate. This is not in the spirit of this network. This network is solely interested in global co-operation to improve the lives of people with SCI regardless of where they live or which spinal unit they end up in. So, if you are not prepared (or able) to share anything with members then please do not take or view the documents of others.

Should I remove my hospital's logo from documents I share?

That is up to you to decide. Most hospitals and organisations welcome the publicity but if in doubt, remove it or ask the relevant person.

Do documents uploaded on this page need to be reviewed and approved before posting?

There is no formal quality control on documents uploaded through this page. So members need to be aware that the International Network of SCIPT does not necessarily endorse the content of documents, nor does it hold any responsibility for their accuracy, safety, or scientific rigor.
